Nineteen fifty-nine was a pivotal year for General Motors. Not only was its lineup a response to Chrysler Corporation’s Forward Look, but it also was a step away from the excesses of its 1958 roster. The designs were new, fresh, and sleek. On Oldsmobile’s end, the entry-level model was Dynamic 88, with Super 88 and 98 completing the series. A 394 V8 was new for the latter two, while the Dynamic 88 continued to use the 371. The J-2 tri-carb option was cancelled.
