New Dates for the « Tour de Martinique en Yoles Rondes » (Race) – Repeating Islands

The Yoles Rondes race is the most important sailing competition of the year in Martinique. Alain Petit (La1ere.francetvinfo) reports that, this year, in view of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the usual dates for the celebrated regatta Tour de Martinique en Yoles Rondes [Tour de Martinique Yawl Race] have been changed to July 14 to 21, 2023. See the original article for dates of other sailing events, including the Mapipis Paddle on November 12, 2023, and the Coupe de Martinique on April 28, 2024.

The Fédération des Yoles Rondes de Martinique (FDYRM) revealed a new schedule for this season. The Tour de Martiniqueis scheduled from July 14 to 21, 2024. These unusual dates were chosen to consider the Olympic Games (scheduled for July 26) which also affect the Martinique sporting world.

Sports fans will be served during the month of July 2024. Three major local and international popular events are on the program.

The cycling tour of Martinique is planned for the first half of July (dates not yet confirmed); the Tour de Martinique en Yoles Rondes, from July 14 to 21; and on the international side, the Olympic Games take place in Paris on July 26.

It will be a very busy month of July for athletes connected to their screens and for those who participate directly or indirectly in the 3 major events.

“The federation opts for judiciousness”

The federation explained that this adjustment was necessary for this 2024 edition of the race. The yawl race for 2024 has been brought forward by a fortnight and will begin on July 14.

Other dates for the 2023/2024 season

Before the Tour, the Paddle of the Mapipis [Pagaie des Mapipis]—the cup and the championship—are planned; several competitions which allow the captains to prepare their crews and build up their strength for the Tour.

This year, 17 skiffs [yawls] are registered and the teams will have to learn or relearn how to sail together.

The Tour’s date change will inevitably tighten the preparation of the sailors. Everyone must expect a busy season for the fleet. The calendar begins on November 12 with the Paddle of the Mapipis in the bay of Fort-de-France. [. . .]
